Next episode of Fringe is entitled “The Bishop Revival”. This will be the second to the last episode of Fringe before the show goes back to hiatus. Warning: I’ll be attaching here a preview of the episode. If you don’t want any information on the next episode, don’t go any further!
A man came in to the Vitas Petrol office, only to collapse and died with ruptured veins, causing to spray his blood everywhere. The death required the investigation of Olivia and Peter, who were later quarantined inside the building to prevent the spread of a deadly virus. Walter and Astrid tried to unlock the mysterious virus in order to find cure and to stop a possible global infection. Walter got emotional with Peter’s condition, almost confessing to Astrid the death of his real son, Peter.
A small town called Edina was found to be inhabitate by disfigured humans, whose faces look to be normal in the perception of the outsiders. The Fringe team later discovered that Walter Bishop once involved in the same research which aims to camouflage soldiers in the war. In this episode, Walter expressed himself of fear of getting lost and abducted, referencing back to what happened in the Grey Matters.
Fox unearthed an episode involving a never-seen-before case of a dead girl coming back to life, which happened to be “possessed” by a Russian speaking navy officer. Since this episode is supposedly in Season 1, we see Olivia’s partner Agent Charlie (and Astrid’s old hairstyle) alive and kicking. Fringe, in this episode, seems to get into the world of Ghost Whisperer, as Andrew Rusk need to (fulfill his unfinished business) avenge his death by going after the responsible for the murder, his wife.
Fringe at Monday 9pm timeslot got 7.79M viewers compared to Heroes at its new (original) timeslot got 4.71M viewers. Sadly for Heroes as it was its series lowest. CBS and ABC, however, tops against Fox with Two and a Half Men with 17.3M viewers and The Bachelors with 11.15M viewers.
That is just for one night though.
On January 11, 2010, Fringe will come back to battle NBC’s Heroes at Monday timeslot, 9pm. After that, it will go back to its original timeslot, Thursday 9pm.
The episode to be aired on Monday night is entitled “Unearthed”. This is the episode, which is supposedly aired on the first season. The reason for Fox not airing this out last season is unknown, but fans are glad that we’ll see the missing episode. I got an information that there are actually two missing episodes from last season, so I am not very surprised if there’s another one that would surface in the future.
I posted before my intial thoughts of the episode “Grey Matters”, but it will never be complete without an in-depth look at the episode, try to find some easter eggs and clues that could help us answer some of the questions. I will also try to convey my own theories in this post.
1. Who is Thomas Jerome Newton?
His name seems to be taken from a sci-fi film called The Man Who Fell to Earth. Thomas Newton, in the film, is a humanoid alien who came to Earth to bring water back to his home planet, which is experiencing a drought. Could the drought be The Blight in the Fringe world? I wonder if Fringe’s Netwon would be needing to get something from our planet to send over to the other world. But it seems to me that is not the case, as the shapeshifters could just easily get what they needed and request an extraction from the alterworld through the typewriter used in the earlier episodes. The only reason left is that Newton wants to open the portal in order to allow the rest of the aliens come in and invade the Earth.

At last, the long wait is over. This episode brings together the storyline of the shapeshifter, the alternate universe and Walter’s past. The Fringe team investigates a case of stolen brain tissue from a psychiatric patient. This led to identify Thomas Newton, the head of the shapeshifters, who is attempting to find the information on how to open the door between the two universes. After successfully stealing three brain tissues, he interrogated Walter Bishop in an unusual way. This led to discovery of Walter’s past and the connection of William Bell to his amnesia.
Next episode of Fringe is entitled “Grey Matters”. This will be the last episode of Fringe for 2009 and will be coming back on January. Warning: this post would contain some spoilers. If you don’t want any information on the next episode, don’t read any further!
